I had one internship for 5 weeks. I was greatly underqualified so I stepped down. It was engineering and business based where I am a microbio person. I tried asking questions, but my lack of knowledge became apparent very fast. It was highlighted in my performance review so I made the decision to leave before it got any worse. I was advised to take this internship by university recruiters
So I decided to find a new internship. Many of my chemistry labs were online due to the pandemic. So when I found an environmental chemistry lab offering a "Summer internship". I eagerly accepted the role and quit my other role because I thought this was a good chance to beef up on my chemistry labs I missed.
I was genuinely enjoying myself at the job. However, I never did distillations before. I was asking a lot of questions and I was much more independent today then I was yesterday. However, I was told I was too slow by the owner and that I need to go back to biology labs. Then they listed off a whole bunch of basic lab tasks claiming I didn't know how to use stuff like scales for example when I never even used a scale in my 3 days there. They were also claiming I didn't know how to use a pipette when I use them everyday in my independent academic research project in far more advanced capacities. I also use scales everyday in my independent research project.
They told me I was not "fired" but they no longer had a role for me. I was encouraged by the owner to go apply to work at a grocery store so "I could go learn how to use a scale" I worked 14 hours in total.
Basically I want to get work experience though and this was teaching me some useful things I didnt learn before. I'm not sure what to do since my whole resume is geared towards academic research.
