I am posting here because I think it's relevant but feel free to delete the thread if it's not relevant.
Having worked the last 1.25 years from home I love the flexibility of being able to sleep late or wake up early, drop kids at school or go to the bus stop, doing midday errands when I need to, going for a walk to clear my mind, being available for family when needed while at the same time delivering well in my work. I do not miss the 90 minute one way commutes. When the pandemic started my company including others created formal policies that sounded very catchy like flexible life, choice matters etc. but now that most people are vaccinated, companies are asking people to come back into the office although the last 1.25 years has proven that people are able to deliver same or more but doing so by being happy. Also I see these policies now going to the background.
I am presently worried if my company calls back to office. I can certainly do probably one day a week but more than that I would be pushing it. My current situation is about $1M in mutual funds, about $500k home equity. I am a Program Manager that manages IT projects. I live in a HCOL area. I am being paid fairly well. But if the above occurs I am worried as to how to handle the situation. I am an introvert by nature. I get my energy and motivation and am at my productive best where I don't need to socialize a lot. However going into office would mean I would need to do all that which may go against my fundamental nature. How can I handle this situation if they insist to come into office? The savings above is certainly not going to be sufficient. I am 44 with two kids and a stay at home wife.
