I was just wondering how do I deal with FOMO in terms of job offers? I live in a large beach town and got an offer for $15 an hour with a guaranteed 40 hours a week housekeeping.
Pros: it’s close by where we live, it’s guaranteed hours and pay, the people seem nice, my partner seems to think this is a better opportunity than some of the other opportunities I’ve been presented with. I’d work with a team. It pays enough to justify child care costs.
Now for the cons: the hours are 7am-3:30pm and the summer program I’d have to enroll my child in doesn’t open till 6:45 which gives me 15 minutes to get from there to the place, and GPS said it takes 13 minutes. It is through the local public school so I could get there’s bit early but it’s still too close for my comfort so I am going to call tomorrow and see if I can work something out around that. And if not I’ll just have to work around it but either way it’s just really early. I’d have to work with a co-Ed team which is not something I’m entirely comfortable with. Not that I’ve ever had a bad experience but I’d still rather not risk being put in a potential situation. You have to walk building to building in all weather even raining.
My second option is doing house keeping through a private company and getting paid per unit. There’s 2 different companies I could go through right now. One pays a little less, and makes you supply your own cleaning supplies, but overall seems more structured and mostly in 1 big condo building. The other one pays more, supplies cleaning stuff but isn’t as structured seeming and seems smaller than the other one. Pros to this: it’s pay per unit so I could make a couple of hundred a day, the day doesn’t start till 9:30am and goes to about 4pm.
Now for the cons: it’s pay per unit so it’s not guaranteed. One person seems structured but you have to provide your own cleaning stuff and it’s less per unit. The other is less structured and seems like a smaller company. I’d have to drive to different units/buildings. My partner and after talking with one of my parents both say this isn’t the best option and to go with the $15 per hour job.
I guess what I’m getting hung up on is that potential to make more than $15 an hour. It’s not guaranteed and we’re not exactly in a position financially that I can take a small job. But If I can make twice what I’m getting paid at the $15 per hour job that would go a long ways to helping us out financially.
