Would you ask to speak with the person doing the same job in the State you're in because the potential employer has a similar job, but its out of State? Id have to pay moving costs. U.S.A.

Say a contract vendor company approaches you for a job.

They call and discuss potential openings, BUT they are out of State and would require you to absorb the moving costs.

Movers, or Uhaul truck and cargo to tow car, gas, insurance, start up at an apartment. I'm guessing $3000-$5000 total.

But Id have to front that money.

This vendor company has business with other State workforce agencies in the U.S. (in 4 other States) including the one I'm in.

There's no openings for where I am now.

I dont even know anyone who is working in the same job here as I would be considering, for out of State. I'd want to speak with them to learn more about it. Because the people I met locally who work for this employer are somewhat rude and indifferent.

This employer is a private employer, family owned, and does business thru the Govt and gets paid per contract to perform Govt work

But there would be no employment contract for me. Just "at-will."

Job would pay between $55k-$60k

  • * Since I've been on unemployment Id have to work for a year or so to build up that unemployment benefit.

I did not meet anyone in this State that is working in the role that I applied for out of State.

The out of State location isnt the best. A college town, Greenville, NC.

What happens if I lost the job unexpectedly? I'd be stuck on an apt lease, still having to earn back moving costs, and in an area where there isnt a lot of business.

They want to interview me over the phone tomorrow.

Can I ask, "Who has this job here in TN, can I speak with them to learn more about it. I want to know how the job works and if its the right fit.

And can I get a written contract to cover me within the first year in case it doesnt work out so I wont be out moving expenses and apt lease break fees.
