Hey everyone, I'm going through some serious regret and it's gnawing at me at the moment. A little background of me. I work in a laboratory and I went to school to get licensed to work in a hospital lab. I currently have about two years of experience in the laboratory. However, about a few months ago, I applied to an IT job that works on software the lab I work for uses. Surprisingly, I got a job offer and I turned it down because I felt like I wanted more lab experience to become more versatile. In the long run, I do make more money if I stay in the lab especially since it is a union, but the hours are a pain. I work from 6am-3pm and work every other weekend. However the IT job is just Monday-Friday with flexible hours that you can pick and it is non-unionized. The thing with this IT job, you can't really go higher as in promotions. This IT job basically is the ceiling and you just stay there where as if I keep getting experience in the lab, it will open more doors to either management, department leads, or other lab related areas as long as you got the lab experience.
I ended up turning down the job offer because I felt like I wanted a few more years of experience so that I can fully leave the lab, but now I'm really regretting not accepting the job now. I want a flexible schedule as I'm tired of working in the lab. It's physically exhausting. I guess I also didn't want to leave the lab just yet because I worked so hard in school just to get this licensure and to leave after two years is a bit premature. Also, this particular IT job is rare and the field is very small. I was scared, I would end up stuck, but this specific role is really nice if you have it as in it is a pretty comfortable position. I'm not sure where I'm going at. My mind is everywhere.
Now, my question is, how do I deal with this regret of not accepting the IT job? Have you experienced any regret turning down a job and how did you deal with it? How do I look forward even though I'm really miserable at my current job?
