So... I work as a merchandiser for a large beverage company. I work hard, do my job well, it's become pretty apparent that they'll lean on me as hard as they can. We're always short handed, and with good reason... We're not paid enough for what we do and the good employees seek to jump ship to other companies regularly. I told myself I'd give this at least a year so I'm staying put at least a few more weeks.
Anyways I'm wondering if I should be annoyed or upset by this. Two weeks ago we were told that we would all be required to work mandatory 6 days for two weeks, I got lucky and only had to do it for one as my vacation was planned for this week but I was still pretty irked at the whole "don't make plans we'll need you an extra day the next two weeks" I'm like wtf that's the whole point of plans, you make them ahead of time. Then I get an email yesterday that they're changing my days off. Instead of working 5 days on, 2 off they want me to work 4 on, one off, one on, one off. So I'll get a one day weekend instead of two. I have kids, and I'm regularly working 50-55+ hours a week in a very physically demanding job. I feel like a one day weekend is bullshit, it doesn't really give me a chance to unwind, relax, or get much done around the house. Even more annoying is they sprung this on me only two weeks out. Again don't make plans... My kids were off school that Monday so I'd planned on taking them somewhere as I'd actually have a two day weekend with them for once.
Of everyone on my team I'm the only one being asked to split my weekends.
Anyways... I'm not sure if this is more a rant, or if I'm looking for advice how I should proceed. Leaning towards telling my work at the bare minimum I can't work that day, but that I'll give this a few weeks at most or I'm going to start looking for a new job.
