Hey y'all! I'm in a tricky situation.
I've been a front desk worker for a hotel for 6 months now. Our general manager had to let our assistant GM go back in January and I expressed interest in stepping into a management role.
Around 2 months ago, my GM comes to me and says that they're really impressed with my performance. They told me that they were still working out details on a management position but would give me a pay raise in the mean time. Since then I have stepped up with certain responsibilities that involved hiring, scheduling and recently disciplining staff. They've in the last 2-3 weeks been telling other employees how I'm the new front desk manager...
I haven't shut them down with an "excuse me, what??" yet but want to have a sit-down with them on what the hell they're talking about. I know I get paid the same as the rest of the staff and I'm a leader but what kind of greasy crap is this??
I remember very clearly them saying "we're still working out the details" and me asking what type of new responsibilities they were thinking about. I remember saying that I would be very confident in a role supervising front desk staff. There was no offer for a new title. There has been no discussion on what the new responsibilities will be (unless they're so greasy they just want to not tell me and have me pick up the slack in every department *eye roll*)...
Anywho, I finally have a day off tomorrow and plan to apply to a bunch of other properties even though I've created a really successful program at my current hotel. I want to have a candid conversation with our GM on Wednesday, but really.. what the hell are they thinking?? That I just implicitly accepted being on call and accepted a position that was never outlined with no more compensation than the rest of our front desk staff?
Any professional advice? Would greatly appreciate other opinions in the matter - thank you!
