Advice on how to apply for a job

So where i currently work we do business with this company and i have became pretty good friends with our main point of contact there. Well today he told me about an open position they have and im pretty qualified for it and would love to work there. He sent me the listing and all it says is email an updated resume to the hiring persons email. What should i include with my resume? Should i give a brief description of myself and my reference that i have? And is there anything else i should add or leave out?
