Seeking genuine advice about a job offer.

Hello,

First Post here. Please genuine advice only.

A bit of info about myself, I'm currently a Store Manager large retail company in Australia. I am also in my final year of completing a double degree in Commerce (Business) and Law. So i'm looking at my next steps and taking on a new role after university finishes at the end of the year. I've thoroughly enjoyed this, but it was always something I did in the interim while I studied.

I have been applying for other positions and recently have been given a job offer for an Area Manager. The full compensation is about $20K more than what I earn now. It all suddenly became real. I had been applying for jobs and honestly did not think I would be successful, so I was applying as a "no stone left unturned" idea - So I could not look back and have any regrets.

My problem is, I always thought of getting into the government or economics stream. I suppose I'm worried I won't be able to go down that path afterwards.

So should I take on the role while I complete my Masters in Economics and then try down that path again?

Or should I try and make a career in business operations?

What my worries are:

- I'm worried about not be able to excel in the role - but I shouldn't be afraid of things that challenge me.

- I moved up from Casual to Assistant Manager and to Store Manager. There was a clear career plan for myself. Now it feels like I'm changing industries altogether and I'm taking a step forward into the dark not knowing where I'll land. But I shouldn't be afraid of changing it up as that's how we develop and grow.

- What If I say no to this opportunity and I don't end up getting a grad role.

- What if I say yes to this opportunity and I do end up getting a grad role - but even then, continuous employment after a grad role is never guaranteed.

My financial responsibilities:

- I've been very lucky to purchase a property with my partner. So now I have a mortgage to think about - Something many graduates don't have to worry about.

Any advice would be helpful. I'm seriously questioning my next career choice.

Thank you in advance!
