How to not feel guilty about getting a new job

Hi there,

So I moved to my new city in Sept 2021 and got hired as a pharmacy assistant at $14/h (which is slightly above minimum of $13.10). I already had a year’s experience in the field, so I expected a higher wage but my new city is francophone and I’m Asian so i figured I wouldn’t be easily hired anywhere else. My boss is very nice and she often gives me snacks, but I can’t help but to feel underpaid for my work (I often get told I work fast and efficiently compared to other pharm techs). She also constantly says how broke she is and how she’s losing money, so I haven’t worked up to asking for a raise. She also asks me to come in for like 3.5-4 hrs at a time, which is a waste because it takes me 30 mins to get to work.

I’ve been looking around for new positiona for post grad (I graduate from my BSc in May) and I already have two offers for $17/h. They are also offering longer hours so I’m not wasting my time for a short shift.

Should I try to negotiate a higher wage at my current job and better hours? Or just leave all together since I’m guaranteed two jobs with better hours and wages already. I feel a sense of loyalty since she hired me when I was still new to the city, but at the same time, I know that I don’t owe her anything. I know that she doesn’t want me to leave (because I mentioned grad school abroad and she already told me she didn’t want me to go).

What would you do? How do I make this less awkward?
