New here, so please let me know if I’m better off posting this somewhere else. I was fired from my paralegal position last august.
Trigger warning sexual harassment:
Reason being because I was sexually harassed by the CTO for months and fell into an extremely depressed state when nothing came from the investigation, even though two other girls reported him as well. One day, I didn’t do ANY work, I report I completed the tasks. Next morning my manger (who had my back every step of the way during the investigation) calls me to let me know the firm has been looking for reasons to get rid of me (because I refused to go back into the office 1. Because the CTO was intimidating me and retaliating against me ex. would wait outside my office so I’d have to see him 2. People kept testing positive for Covid 3. All my work was doable from home.) My manager tells me they have been monitoring my computer and I’m fired. She says she can’t be a reference or continue to fight for me for risk of losing her job. I know I could bring a case against them but they are a big deal in this area and well respected, and it seems like way more trauma than it’s worth.
Anyway, I have finally started to dig myself out of a very depressed state and have a job interview for a non profit job at a very liberal company in California. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what I should say when they ask why I left my last job or why I’ve been unemployed for so long. I was interviewing with Facebook right before I got fired from the paralegal position, the last round was the day after I was fired so I completely fell apart because I kept panicking that I wouldn’t know what to say if they asked me. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? I have been told by lots of people to just tell them the truth, obviously in a less detailed way, because why would I work for a company that doesn’t respect my experience. I should mention I’m in no rush to get a job but this is a pretty cool one. Thank you!
