Very Worried

So, I'm a freshman in high school, 15 years old. I want to get a job and I need a work permit but I just got a D in one of my classes.

The class I got a D in was a half-credit course, however, I got straight A+'s in every other class besides that. My GPA is going to be 3.96 for this Semester.

Since I got that one D in my half-credit course, is getting my work permit out of the window, or do they judge you on your GPA?

My mom said that since I got a D on that getting my work permit is nowhere in my sights anymore, but I looked up the grade requirement and it said to have an average GPA of 1.76 and I'm above that, so I'm really confused.
