New Job Under-staffed and Stretched to the limit.

I started a new job about 6 months ago. Since I started, two out of four team members were fired and/or quit. I've now absorbed their workload for the last 4 months, in addition to my own, and it doesn't look like management is making much progress in replacing those team members.

The stress is starting to get to me and it's getting difficult to conceal my frustration in the office. I try to keep my head down as much as possible but I know I'll eventually get to my breaking point. The combination of the workload, the last-minute nature of how the business is run, the lack of workflow processes in place in the business, and just pure feeling resentful for having to carry this extra workload for no extra pay or recognition. I'm also still relatively new to the company.

I know I need to leave this job, but it will take some time. I've been on a couple of interviews but it requires strategically taking sick days and vacation days as the office is outside of the downtown core. At a certain point colleagues will begin to get suspicious as to why I keep taking days off.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and how did you handle it?
