Tell me your experience of agency work please

I really need a permanent full time job urgently. I have heard bad things about employment agencies being liars amongst other things. I'm in the UK.

Some say that their jobs are temporary to permanent and will lead to permanent positions but seem to want people to sign temporary contracts or zero hours contracts, which I definitely don't want having responsibilities and bills.

Please can you tell me your experience with agencies so that I can decide whether it's worthwhile pursuing finding work that way. Thank you for any replies.
