Had an "informal discussion" with a potential employer yesterday, I believe it went really well. Towards the end the hiring manager told me I'm the first person to be interviewed for this position, and if I'm selected for a "formal interview" I should know relatively soon.
Anyway, after the discussion, he emailed me and asked me if I had any expectations regarding salary. I said, "I am open to negotiation. However, considering my experience a salary between $X and $Y seem fair"
His response was, "Thanks for thinking in range for salary. Just didn't want to waste any more of your time (or ours) if we were way off type thing."
Now, I'm probably reading too far into this, but his response has me thinking he thinks I'm asking for too much. But at the same time, if he's in the interest of not wasting my time, wouldn't he just tell me Im asking for too much. Thoughts? Has anybody else been in a situation like this before? Maybe I should just wait and see what happens?
