Trying to make this as anonymous as possible but whatever, I’m currently in a job in Denver that I've worked at for 8 years. In those 8 years I've gone from making 28k(lol) to now 50k with 3 job changes in those years.
I've been pretty miserable at this job for a good number of years due to toxicity of previous managers and employees but I've had the ability to have Fridays off in exchange for a Sunday until last year when I made the change to a new position which requires more experience(that I have) and requires greater demand than my previous support position.
I was most recently promoted in October to the new position with 50k but working Monday - Friday. This was around a 1.5k raise from my previous salary despite taking on more work. I was previously making 46.5k with a bonus of 3k for working weekends.
I also recently discovered that new staff that work in a starting entry level position now make 42k, and another co-worker who does less intricate work makes 58k.
During a recent salary review, I requested 70k as a base salary(I really wanted 65k, but my GF said to ask for more) and was given a run-around by manager before being requested to have it in writing and told that he'll review it with HR and follow-up with me next week.
In this conversation, my manager also asked the question "So if you don't get this raise, are you leaving or what is the future of your position at this company if you don't receive this raise" to which I just re-affirmed my values and avoided/deflected that question. I mentioned later on at the end of the call that I looked forward to further growth and years with the company.
But in reflection, I feel if I'm not able to get a significant raise then I'll need to leave the company even though I don't currently have a job lined up. I have about 30k~ in the bank and another close to ~200k in money that's currently invested. I feel drained in my current role and want to get out, but I'm worried I'm making a terrible decision.
