I recently applied for a job and went through to the interview and online testing stage. Unfortunately I wasn't successful in the end but the HR person involved in the application process told me that everyone really liked me and it was very close in the end. They then went onto say that they are seeking approval to create an additional role, very similar to the one I applied for and that they would like to slot me into that, and I would get to skip the interview process etc. However I have heard nothing from them since that last update and when I followed up via email they didn't even respond.
Now I see that they have recently posted a new vacancy for the exact same role. Either the original person fell through or this is the new role they were referring too. Although being ghosted as left a bad impression I think I would still like to apply again, is there anything I should do differently this time, or should I just go through the process again as normal? Should I email the HR person again letting them know that I have applied again? It might be a bit awkward considering they didn't respond to my last email.
