I'm a recent college grad (graduated a month ago with a B.S. in Mathematics) and I'm currently back at home with my parents in a small town. I'm currently working for the fast food job (Whataburger) I starting working at age 19 (this was my first job).
Back in August 2020, I applied to be promoted to a higher position (team leader) seeing that I had worked there before and I felt confident that the area and district manager would give it to me. The next day the area manager called about my application and she said she would put me as a "in training" for this higher position.
Fast forward to now, I've still been in training for this position, but I feel that I've been pigeonholed and haven't gotten much out of it. I started out part time from August 2020-December 2020 since I was still in college, but now that I'm full time I'm already starting to feel that this job is not worth it anymore doing the same thing over and over again and I'd rather be at home working on myself or applying to other jobs.
I will also admit that I've been struggling to work with the other employees. Most of the people who work there during the day are older millennials while the other younger zoomers around my age are cliquey.
In addition to this, since COVID hit, the restaurant has been really shorthanded, so it's been hard for the managers to get me trained in my position since they don't have many people to cover positions.
I tried applying to some other places in town in the past few years (such as Chick-fil-a, Starbucks, Which wich) and had interviews, but they rejected me :(
I just wanted to know if anyone had this sort of dilemma and also wanted to know if there's any way good way to handle this. I know fast food jobs are high turnover in general but I also wanted some insight on how to handle situations where it wouldn't hurt my resume, or if it would be a good idea to quit. Thank you.
