Before I graduated back in May 2020, I did an internship for class credit. It was unpaid and while I did learn some things, I realized that experience was still not enough for me. I realized it since after May, I went through a lot of interviews while job hunting but I received no offer for a solid 5 months...Until November hit and I just went for another unpaid internship that I felt would help me grow more in my field and I definitely grew more experience with that one (plus I got a one-time commission pay, discounts, and free stuff lol)
My second internship is about to end and lately, I am in the works of making an Etsy shop with my sister! I want a paid job right now because I want to help invest in our business, help pay back my student loan, and also help my parents (who is still providing for me).
I’m actively looking on Indeed for remote work but, in my field (Art/Graphic Design), entry-level design jobs will always be competitive (even more so because of covid). There are job postings where I meet the qualifications and experience but I guess in that selection pool, there are much more experienced people. I’m losing my mind but I’m not giving up on applying. But while I’m still searching, there is one unpaid internship that attracted me because of the opportunities to grow. BUT, I really want to make money now :(
I was thinking that if I don’t get a paid job in my field this month, I’m thinking about more side hustles other than my Etsy shop, like becoming an online English tutor or survey test taker idk I’m wondering how many unpaid internships have you all went through to finally get a job in your field???? Also anyone going through the same or similar situation as me, please share how you’re coping with this. Any advice is welcomed!
