Do contract-to-hire positions turn into FTE in digital journalism?

I am a recent college grad who couldn’t find a full-time position in the journalism field due to all the obvious reasons. But, recently, I was offered a contract-to-hire position at one of my favorite digital sites ever. It’s for an SEO editorial assistant position. In the offer email, it states that “It’s for three months with the potential to be renewed, extended, and/or turned into a full-time position.”

Also, let me know if I’m thinking too much into it, but the company is also sending me a company computer. Is it commonplace for contract-to-hire positions to send you a company computer?

Long story short, do you think a contract-to-hire job can actually turn into a full-time position, or should I just take it for what it is?
