How long should i wait to ask about job application update?

So I applied to work in an apartment building and i just think it’s such an amazing job opportunity, I’ve talked to someone from HR on the phone, and they told me they would send my resume to the hiring manager and to wait about a week for an email. It’s been about a week and a half and i haven’t heard back but i don’t think i have too much competition as they keep reposting the job offer online. Should I wait a few more days or send them a friendly email asking about if there’s any progress? I really don’t want to lose this job but i still have lots of hope because a lot of the employees said online that it takes a while to get hired. I don’t know haha what do you guys think? :)
