Can I get hired if I don’t have my social security number card but I know the number?

I’m 18 years old and I’ve been applying for jobs like crazy. I recently asked my mom for my birth certificate and social but it seems she has misplaced them BOTH. Will an employer understand that I am currently in the process of getting a new one? I know my number, unfortunately I have to wait for the card though and I’m worried I will be hired before then. What should I do?
