Anybody have experience transitioning from a temporary position to a permanent one within the same company?

I’ve just been notified that a HUGE company (top 5 in their field in the world) has extended an offer to me for a temporary position. I’m extremely excited, given that job hunting absolutely sucks (I’ve been rejected over 200 times, hadn’t had a single interview other than this one and haven’t had a job since graduating in may 2020 after 3 postgrad degrees) however, I am a bit nervous as this is my first legitimate job that’s within the field I want to pursue long-term. Nevertheless I’m jumping on the opportunity and asked during the interview if they value employee growth and whether transitioning to a permanent position is possible. They assured me it is, but I can’t help but think that they have to say that to encourage me to give it my all. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has experience transitioning from a temp position to a permanent one and what the process was? Did you immediately transfer? Was the opportunity presented to you? Was there a gap in employment between positions?
