After one interview I was offered a position that involves supervising and supporting young adults going throughout a type of rehabilitation. I’m comfortable with the requirements and expectations but it doesn’t pay well.
On the other hand, I’ve also been interviewing with a second company that pays slightly over what the first company pays. I’m also comfortable with their expectations and the role overall but the interview process is a lot more rigorous. Overall, it’s 6 interviews and I’m on stage 3.
I’m not quite sure what to do at this point because if I accept the offer for the first position but later end up getting the second position as well, I’d honestly want to go with the second because it pays slightly higher and aligns a little more with my career pathway. If this happens, I’d only be with the first company for under 2 weeks. Wouldn’t this promote an unfavorable relationship with them? It’s a small town and I’d rather not exhaust my career options because the pathway I would like to carve for myself will eventually be more specialized.
Ultimately, what should I do in my case? I’m uneasy about turning down one position and then it ends up that I don’t get the second and i have to continue looking. I’ve been without employment since December 2019 and I feel as if I really cannot afford to be too selective.
