Hi guys,
To shorten this post down I'll just say that my previous job was very basic IT; the one primary customer being a big school board.
I joined this job when I was in college. I since graduated the 3 year IT course, but should have learned more instead of juggling jobs too.
At this company I went from being a hardware technician for primarily school Chromebooks and iPads, to being team lead, to managing a team of 6; then Covid hits, restructuring happens, and I got moved to an administrative role which consisted of creating tickets, billing and closing tickets. INSANELY repetitive, busy, and hell on mental health. It really did decline over the past 7 months.
So as far as experience goes, it's not fantastic...
I've just landed a job for a bit of a pay raise (my last company paid 40k and this is 42.5), that he described as tier 1 & 2, MSP work, and helpdesk as well. They even have some cloud data management stuff going on. A bit of everything I'll be thrown into. I'm insanely thankful for the opportunity- it's a small company of 7 but they've been around for a long time.
I'm suddenly crippled with fear that my experience will be inadequate, I'll have left my last job to get fired from this new one, and my drive to learn won't be enough. Hell, I've never even had a desk phone. I have an insane drive to learn more, I'll work like a dog to keep this.
My only concern was his interview being mostly personality based, and barely any technical questions. He may have thought my experience was better due to my management position, even though I described my hardware duties to him. I didn't embellish much except I made it sound like I worked on more ACTUAL laptops instead of mostly Chromebooks.
Has anyone had any similar experience or would be able to provide me some consolation? I'm just scared of my own lack of experience. I'd highly appreciate any insight.
