I went through SEVERAL rounds of interviews for a full time role with a very small company in Austin, TX. They came back and offered me an internship with the possibility of a full time offer if they like me (kind of annoying since I took several assessments and went through so many interviews with them).
The role includes some consulting projects and pretty technical data analysis work. I have no full time experience, having just graduated from college. I really like the company and I'm very interested in the role, so I want to work there.
The internship salary is equal to $60K. They initially told me full time would be at least $75K but then came back and said it would be between $60K to $75K depending on how the internship goes, with average expectations being in the middle of that range. $60K sounds low to me and I'd like to make at least $70K.
These are some salary stats for the Business school at my university:
- Average starting salary for an MIS major is $71K (but it would obviously vary by location).
- Average starting salary for a job in Austin among ALL Business majors is $59K.
- Average starting salary for all Business majors going into consulting is $72K (would vary by location).
- Average starting salary for all Business majors going to tech companies is $64K (would vary by location).
Does this sound like a fair offer? What can I negotiate on? I don't really care too much about the internship salary but should I negotiate the salary range for the potential full time offer?
