A little back story...
For what seems like my whole life, I’ve been able to recognize the identity of the voices I hear, exceptionally well. It started with identifying celebrity is doing the narration of a commercial on TV, actors of animated films I’d watch or the voice actors of games I played on PS1. With high accuracy I can even recognize when people are using a voice other than their natural speaking voice, like if they’re disguising it, or doing a character or something.
Most recent example was just a really strange one. As my wife watched the Netflix “The Ripper” documentary on the big screen and I just putzed round on the little screen, I half heard a British news reporter talking about the case from a clip taken from the 1980s. The reporter was on for about 10 seconds, and within that time I recognized that I’d heard the voice before, then realized it was the News Reporter from Shaun of the Dead giving the advice to remove the head or to destroy the brain. Anyway I’m not British and Shaun of the Dead is literally the only context I had of this news reporter. For all I knew, he was an actor. So anyway, flash forward a half hour of internetting and I confirmed I was right, and then the next episode confirmed it again.
Anyway, if I hear a voice once, I can recognize it and place the “who” to it damn near every time. It’s really strange and I tell you this most recent one with the British reporter was one of the more bizarre examples. So, I said hey, let’s see if there’s a job out there where this is valuable. So here I am.
Reddit, should be in a van that looks like it cleans carpets listening in on conversations with really big head phones on or what!? Is there a job out there where this strange skill is valuable?
