I applied to ~100 jobs over the past 6 months and wound up with 3 offers. Perhaps a dozen of my applications made it to the interview/screening stage.
For each of the three offers I eventually received, it took like 6-7 rounds of interviews to eventually get there. First a 30 minute phone screening with a recruiter. Then a 1 hour meeting with manager A. Then a 1 hour meeting with manager B. Then a 4 hour meeting with the broader team. Then a follow up meeting with manager B. Then another follow up meeting with manager B. And in each case, this whole process was stretched out over 1-1.5 months. Meanwhile, I'm constantly checking my email to see if they've made a decision, only to see they want to schedule yet another meeting/follow up interview.
It's like... am I applying to be CEO or something? What on earth would they learn from the 5th or 6th or 7th call that they didn't learn from all of the other calls. How do they even have this much time available to do this with each person they are considering to hire? And each time they'd ask at the end, "So, what questions do you still have at this time?" The only question I have at this point is whether I got the damn job or not.
