This is an update to my previous post:
Anyway, my boss spoke to me today, and this kind of came up. He called me to tell me that if another promotion didn't open up between now and May 2021, someone would come in and help with my workload so I can focus on other projects and make myself "stand out" for that next promotion. There is a couple problems with this stateement.
1.) I didn't ask for more of a workload, it was assigned to me. I didn't really have much choice in the matter, and now I feel as if it's being used as a reason I didn't get the promotion because "It's not how much work you take on", which I get. Like I said, I didn't have a choice in the matter. In that case, could I have refused to not take on the job that is the workload for two people, but stayed in my usual role and "added more value"?
2.) I did attempt to make myself stand out by taking on projects. One I discussed with my manager, and then he assigned to someone else for what seemed like no reason. The other ones, I was told that "daily work is the priority". So when I tried, I was pretty much brushed off.
He even kind of slipped at one point and said "this isn't the glass ceiling for you, you have only been in your role 22 months!" even though the person they promoted was doing my same job with less work for 9 months.
As I was gathering feedback from my interviewers, someone who has outright been very upset with the company told me he was "honestly surprised" by the decision. He also told me that nothing would have mattered because "the decision wasn't 100% based on merit" which he said was just his opinion with know factual evidence.
Now I am confused as ever, still not sure what my career path looks like besides "if your not promoted in six months we will reduce your workload so you can try to get promoted if something comes uo".
With more info, does this sound like BS to everyone else?
