I’ve been unemployed for about 8 months now and I finally got a job offer that pays 6-figures but I have to relocate across the country for. When they extended the offer, I asked for some time to think about it (since I was waiting for a few other job offers) but they were pressuring me to make a decision soon. I didn’t want to risk losing this offer so I accepted it
A week later, another job offer came through where I don’t have to relocate, it pays even more, and it’s better for my long-term career path. However the main disadvantage of this job is that it’s more difficult and the manager seems like someone I wouldn’t get along with well. The pros seem to outweigh the cons so I accepted it.
What do I do with the first job I already accepted? How do I tell them no at this point?

My dad recommended that I push back the start date for the first job as far out as possible so that I can start working the second job and scope it out a bit. If things aren’t going well with the second job, then I still have the first job as a backup. However this seems a little unfair for the first job since I’m just leading them on. My dad countered saying that I shouldn’t worry about them and should do what’s in my own best interest because most companies exploit their workers anyways and are often willing to lay off employees on a dime if it helps their bottom line. In other words, he says it’s just business and the path with the least risk for me
