Are that many companies really toxic?

Throwaway account because my boss actually knows my Reddit. So I’m 31 years old and my last 2 jobs I stayed at for about 4 years each. These were both retail management jobs and FAR from easy, but I still didn’t dread waking up and going to work each day. I was tired of retail so I started looking for other jobs (admin, customer service etc) and I’ve had 3 terrible jobs where I dreaded work each day due to constant stress, overworked/under staffed and as well as unsupportive bosses since then. My current job I’ve been at for about a year and a half but I am so overworked and stressed out I’m tempted to quit without something else lined up. I’ve been quietly looking for a new job but I have a fear this will happen again since it’s happened so many times in a row before. Does anyone else feel like they’re moving from one toxic job environment to another? Are that many companies really that poorly run? It’s a depressing realization. I never really considered myself anxious person until I started having all these work related issues.
