I received a job offer for a government contractor and went through the security clearance process. My clearance was approved this week and I got a start date from my new employer.
When I put in my resignation for my current job my boss asked what it would take for me to stay.
Background: I relocated across the country for my current job and it’s an account management role so I travel a lot. The reason I wanted the new job was so I could move back home where my fiancé is.
My current boss said me moving back home is not an issue if it would make me stay. And I could make any other requests (might not be approved) but he sounds like they really want me to stay.
The new job is ~20k less pay, and would be punching a clock every day forever, but it would allow me to be in the same place as my family and fiancé.
My current job is flexible and I like the team and my job, I just wanted to be back home.
My thinking is to stay with my current job and decline the new job. I believe since I have the clearance it would stay current for 2 years and then expire, so if I wanted to leave my current job within 2 years I would have that clearance helping me with a job search.
Everything on the internet says never to take a counter offer, but I need some perspective.
