What about resumes ?

Hi! another question here!

Do I even need a resume? I've heard they're usually only looked at for a few seconds, or thrown out. I don't have any crazy accomplishments as my jobs were basic retail, or waitress jobs, and simply nothing to write home about. I was also fired from my last two jobs, both I have good explications for. I was at both of them for a little over a year, so I can't really just... leave them off or I would have almost a 3 year gap on my resume. So what do I do? I don't want two of 3/4 jobs listed on my resume to be jobs I was fired for.......
