I'm on day 4 of this new remote job and I have not been assigned any tasks what-so-ever besides attending meetings just to understand how meetings work, meeting my team, and doing online training. A typical 9-5 job is turning more into 3-4 hours because I've been given very little guidelines on what I should be helping with.
The vice president of my department apologized to me that I won't get the formal orientation they do for all their hired because of the pandemic and everything is very out-of-order because the company hired a bunch of new employees and trying to get the new hired adjusted. My director told me he would also reach out to me today after he comes back from PTO and even though I send them an email today as a reminder, he never responded back. I don't know if I should talk to the vice president of my department on what I should do, wait to talk during the team weekly meeting, or just wait for my main supervisor to respond back to my email...
I feel completely lost and feel like I'm wasting my time in front of my laptop waiting for something or wait to be given a project. I was placed in some current projects just to understand how projects are run. I do my best to listen, understand, and give out some feedback+ideas related to the role I was hired for, but in any suggestions I make, I get the answer that they can't do anything at this point in projects because I was hired in a time where projects are in near completion and they can't change anything.
What should I do? I really want to get the ground moving, do something productive, and actually feel like I'm getting work done without feeling as if I'm just wasting time. I feel as if accepting this job was a huge mistake right now but I also don't want to leave because it's only been a couple of days, it's really difficult to get a job during the pandemic, and the company I'm at interests me.
Sorry if this sounds confusing. I'm just really overwhelmed and stressed out with how these past few days have been like because I've never experienced this before...
