Hello all.
At the beginning of March I lost an admin job that I had only been in for two months because of the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown. As you can imagine the job market has been extremely tough and I live in a relatively deprived area with few jobs at the best of times. I will be starting a new job soon, back to being a supervisor in retail but I'm still looking for other things as this is what I thought I had escaped by taking the job that I lost.
I'm really nervous about having such a long gap in my employment, even though most places I'm sure will understand the circumstances. The only other gaps have been while I was studying at university. Meanwhile, my father and grandfather have been running a family business which is an auto garage for the last 60 years. I have occasionally helped out there by doing reception work, other admin stuff such as rotas and payroll when required but I have never formally been employed there and as such there would be no HMRC record of the job for example, nor have I been paid for any of the work. My grandfather's getting on in years as you can imagine and I just enjoy helping him out. They have been open throughout the lockdown and I've helped out a few times.
My question is mainly would I be able to put this on my CV? I won't embellish it too much, I'll mention the duties that I've had there and in other roles too because I'm largely applying for admin and office work jobs. It's just that I have the skill set and I feel this could give me an advantage when applying for places. Will I be able to do this despite having never been formally employed there? It's just that I have done it, but very rarely. I'm leaning towards putting it on there, it's everyone for themselves out there at the moment in particular.
