Hey all. Just a preface, 26yo male, I work as a Software Engineer. I have absolutely no complaints about my job in reference to other jobs. I have a great boss, good pay, wonderful peers, etc.
I feel like my main issue is just mental fatigue honestly. When I got out of college I thought what I wanted was a mentally engaging job, but after working in the field for a few years I can say that it's just not at all what I want. Coming to work every day and being required to be 100% on your game mentally is just awful, and I realized that most of the time I'm not really interested in thinking too much unless I'm specifically interested in a particular project.
I was thinking of trying to make a switch to something more mentally mundane, but hands-on. The problem is I have no skills in anything other than software. I live in a relatively rural area, so there are not many "training" programs around, not that it would matter with COVID and everything shutting those things down.
I'm OK with lower pay. I just need to get out. Is there anyone here who has gone from a high-tech job to a less mentally engaging one (I'm hoping to find something more physical)?
Thanks!
