First time posting on here. I (23 F) got fired/laid off (?) verbally today. (The exact wording was "we are going to have to let you go") I'm not exactly sure what to do next. This is my first time ever being let go and I only got a day notice. I asked my boss when my last day would be and he said tomorrow. (On my birthday yay!)
It feels really bad; especially since throughout the pandemic I have been working pretty much the standard 40 hour week (our company is a small bio/lab research company in CA) when it was short-staffed, while mostly everyone else worked at home. Additionally, our company deducted our pay by 15% (calling it a deferred payment) but made no promises to pay it back to me afterward. I additionally had to train two new hires and manage their work, so the people that are hired to replace me aren't fully trained yet. (I'm still the main/only person proficient at the skills for the job).
Anyways, I'm not really sure what to do since this is my first job out of undergrad. Are there ways to maybe get compensated for this? I want to argue to at least get my deferred money/compensated for my work there. I'm also concerned about my insurance coverage since it was covered by my company. What should my next steps be?
