Is a pretty resume worth it?

Hi there,

So I have a unique last name, let’s say it’s the Egyptian word for “cloud” and has a really pretty hieroglyph. A little rectangle with swirls and stuff. My name is hard to pronounce so it is also a tool I use to help people remember.

For the longest time I have put this glyph in all my profesional templates, as part of my name. It is decorative, but also has been a significant talking point in many interviews. I had one manager tell me years after meeting me, he remembered it.

But I know it’s against the rules, and I guess I’m wondering; is it costing me interviews? Is it better to submit bland, Times New Roman resumes? What about color. Is an accent color against the rules?

Does it matter what industry I’m looking in?
