Stay for the tuition reimbursement or start looking for jobs in my future field?

My current employment situation has me working in a relatively laid back manufacturing environment. Long hours, but a short work week for decent pay in my area. We recently transitioned to a newly built plant and the lowest compensation level was eliminated (basically tier 2 from the old plant is now tier 1 at the new plant)

Initially we were told everybody who got assigned a position above the tier they had been working in would receive backpay periodically since the new plant is still in a state of Flux as the deadline for a full transition has been pushed out another 6 months. I have been tier 1 since I started last fall.

I asked if I could get something in writing today, and was subsequently told that I would not be receiving any backpay, and I would have to wait another six months to be bumped up to the tier 2 pay. Meanwhile, everybody around me is getting raises and bonus pay. The company itself is generous with raises (as well as benefits), handing out yearly raises for simply doing your job.

One of the benefits I have been looking into using is the tuition reimbursement. I plan on getting my degree in business management, and had hoped to stay with the company (not necessarily this specific plant) using the degree as leverage to move up.

I could afford the degree without the reimbursement, and if I take advantage of it, I would have to stay employed with the company for a few years to avoid forced repayment.

Hearing that I wouldn't be receiving a bonus (essentially an entire paychecks worth) after being told otherwise really set me off. I had to fight back the urge to instantly put my two weeks in.

I'm considering looking for management positions in the surrounding area in the meantime.

Would leaving this job be a good idea if I got accepted into a position in the field I'm working towards?

I'm 25 and have a lackluster list of achievements to show for it. I could have a degree in 6 months (transfer credits + competency based classes @ WGU) A part time job could get me by with my current expenses + savings
