Some context: I started my career out of undergrad at a well known tech company in a Corporate Finance role 2 years ago. I really enjoyed the nature of this work and my team/company culture, but the work was super high-level and after 2 years in this role I knew I needed experience with bottoms up financial forecasting, budgeting, and financial management especially in a cross-functional capacity.
An exciting opportunity came up to join a top CPG firm supporting Product Marketing Finance that I took. Not only did it offer a higher salary/bonus (+35% bump) and more seniority, but the role was also sold to me as having those experiences I was looking for. Unfortunately, it's been 2 months now and I'm really not enjoying the work and I don't think the experience aligns with what I want to do in the future... instead of managing budgets and working strategically with partners on marketing spend in the context of their brands and products, a lot of the work so far is related to purchase orders and invoices. I feel like I'm a glorified AP clerk at this point, and it's honestly making me worry that having this experience on my resume will hurt me.
I raised this issue (very tactfully) with my manager and even my skip level, and I've been reassured by both that the job has more to it then the invoice bullshit I've been seeing so far. But even with that being said, I feel like the foundation of this job is related to invoices and purchasing.
Should I start looking for a new job immediately? Or should I try to stick it out for 6 months to experience the job in its entirety as much as I can (recommended by my parents and friends)? I could really use some advice from more experienced members in the community.
