How is finding a nontoxic work environment even possible?

I could use a few tips if you are fortunate enough to work at a place that is not toxic and able to make a living. Even before the pandemic, it was hard to even find a job, let alone one that isn't toxic.

Is it connections? Type of degree and level of entry within the company? Pure luck?

I know it will be harder now and especially if you are living paycheck-to-paycheck then it may seem like a Utopian concept. But I really would like to know. How did you land in your satisfying job?
