I started work as a technical writer at a tech startup last month and after finishing documenting their product and streamlining social media, my boss and I have realized that there isn’t anything big left that requires a full time employee.
We had a meeting today and he said that he doesn’t want to fire me during these time but also isn’t sure how I can value in the current position. He wants me to take the week and identify if there’s a role I think I can transition to and continue with the company.
He also said that we were looking to increase sales so something in that area would be preferred. It’s a 7 employee company with me as the only non technical employee so I definitely think I can add find a niche for myself but am not sure what.
My skillset includes technical writing, basic design skills eg: photoshop/basic coding knowledge - js/react/python - I made a basic app to automate their social media posting using these languages.
They build monitoring equipment for big factories and are B2B with only 2 competitors so don’t need much marketing revamping.
Any advice on what role I can serve to stay hired?
