So I was laid off and worked in logistics for 5 years as a sales rep. I have a degree in engineering and am doing project engineering sales.
I am working for a general contractor, and the company is small, so there is no real training etc, they said I have a year to learn the industry, no quotas or anything.
My boss showed me a formula one time a month ago and I had to do it Friday again and mixed it up a little and he was like “didn’t we do one of these before.” He is stern, kind of never be your friend but straight forward.
How do you deal with this stuff? It takes many repetitions to master things and this guy is so busy all day he hasn’t sat with me for more than 5 minutes since I started in early June.
I’ve just been polite, but it seems like this guy thinks people figure out things with no training. He even acknowledged before I am hired he understands I am coming over from a whole different industry.
I don’t know if he is trying to be a dick, or if he just is one of those guys that’s always that way. I’m not going to quit, but this guy is a pain thinking I can just figure it all out when he told me it’s very complex. And on my negotiations for the job, I requested that I am allowed to leave earlier on boxing event nights with proof I have a bought scheduled that night so I can make weight as I placed second in the Golden Gloves a year ago, so I am doing that as well, and don’t know if this guy is trying to be dominant or whatever because of my sport , but I really don’t want to break his nose and get sued so it’s a strange situation.
