Made it to the final two for a job and ended up losing out to someone that worked for one of their sister companies. (large multinational conglomerate) The HR rep said everyone liked me, had no hesitations etc, just that the other guy already had industry experience. She then mentioned the same position was just posted for another area of the country, and I happened to grow up in that area, so I told her I would have no hesitation being there if offered. Call ended and I sent a quick follow up email thanking her and expressing my interest in that position in which she responded back this morning with “we’ll keep you at top of mind, I spoke with the hiring manager and he is very open to it as well. I’ll be in touch within the next week or 2 regarding status.”
Does this come off as a “thanks but no thanks scenario?” If everything they told me was true, I don’t see why they would need to shop around for different candidates.
