I'm a DBA and I like it... am I limiting my career?

After graduating college with a CS degree and working a few lower-level web developer jobs in a few years, I fell into a better paying SQL DBA role at a big company. And I actually really like it. I get to do enough programming with powershell and C# to automate things or pull system information for reports to keep using the coding skills I've sufficiently acquired. I get to help people write better SQL code, and I find SQL fun. And then I have enough mindless administrative stuff that it's not overwhelming but breaks things up. I'm also pretty good at the 'customer' aspect of the job.

Am I a fool for liking this DBA path and having a plan to stay in it?

It pays pretty well (I'm at 85k when I was making 65K at my last web developer job, and I am in the lowest salary tier for my current role at my company as a noob). It also seems to have a lot less competition than development roles, and the kind of career that will stick around for a while since we are only going to have more databases in the future, not less.

But then you hear about 'the cloud' and how it will stop the need for DBA. Or the idea that this type of role is less valued than a developer. Or hear about rolls like "Data Engineer" that at least sounds more impressive at parties than "database administrator". And it makes me rethink what I'm doing.
