Hey folks, 29yr male who has some experience working with tools and familiar with some construction, plastering, painting, plumbing (overall, the very basic stuff). I have been working in hospitality for the past 7 years ever since I graduated. With the current environment, I was recently laid off from work with no return date. I thought this would be a perfect time to pick up a new skill and maybe find something I am passionate about. With all this shelter-in-place I have come to realize that I enjoy working with my hands as I have been working on small projects around the house. My most recent project has been taking out the lead paint from my living room and plastering the entire room and eventually painting. I have begun applying for jobs for general laborer, hoping to get some type of exposure into construction and using it as my foundation. I have also tried to reach out to some friends who know contractors to see if they need a free helping hand. I don't mind trying to volunteer a tad to find opportunities as I feel that would show some sort of commitment and build off of that. I have yet had any luck, however I am still early in my search.
Long story short, I am wondering for any folks in construction that can guide me in the right direction and give me any legit advice and feedback that I may use to my advantage. In my applications I have listed as much as I can that would relate to construction, however hospitality is a very different field. I feel this will be an uphill battle but I am up for the challenge. Thanks for reading y'all!
