HOW DOES ONE BURGER KING JOB HAVE 972 APPLICANTS?

I have been trying to get a part-time job for practically a year now to save up for college. Now that summer’s coming I’ve speeded it up but still no luck.

Burger King advertised a job to kickstart your resume with no prior experience so I thought cool. Then I got that Indeed update and nearly A THOUSAND people applied? Is that normal for fast food jobs? Does the hiring manager really sift through a thousand resumes and cover letters?

I thought I had a good chance but 1/1,000 is pretty bad odds.
