How should I approach my new management position?

I got promoted to management but I’m new

As the title alludes, I recently accepted an offer to step into a management position at a stabilization unit at a psychiatric hospital. I have 2 years experience as a nurse, and I have been only working at this hospital for 4 months.

I’m concerned that when I start my new position, that the staff will have issue with someone so new taking that management spot. To make things more interesting, I’m not a permanent staff member of that unit, but rather I’m a float nurse which means i travel around the units within the hospital helping where needed for the day.

I do have 3 years of management experience at a previous job but unrelated to nursing.

I am hoping to receive some advice on how I can show the staff that I am confident in my abilities to perform the role. I plan on being out interacting with the patients and showing staff that I’m there to work along side them rather than hide in the office.

Any genuine advice would be appreciated.
