Essentially the title summarises my question I'm trying to answer.
I managed to enrol on a free, part-time, online MSc programme in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) with a recognised and very highly ranked European university. I currently have a BSc in Geography and a Masters in International Relations from good universities (think global top 50). I work as a Geospatial Analyst for the government - so this MSc would be extremely useful for my career.
I've completed one semester of the MSc and I found it a bit tricky but manageable. However, the second semester is proving very challenging. Although I am capable of doing the work I've found that it takes up a majority of my free time in the evenings and weekends. I probably spend a full day every weekend and most evenings after work working on the MSc. Because of this, it's having an impact on my social life and preventing me from enjoying activities I enjoy (e.g. reading). I also don't really have time to go to the gym anymore because I'm so exhausted after study. My sleep is also suffering as I'm frequently up until midnight to meet deadlines.
Because of these things, I'm not sure if I should continue like this for another 3 years with the degree or just give up (after all I haven't paid anything and i have learned things so it's not like I've lost anything).
Has anyone else had similar situations? I don't want to ruin my career by abandoning this good opportunity which could help me gain promotions. I'm also scared it makes me look weak to my boss. However, my quality of life is very low and I'd be much happier prioritising health, leisure and socialisation rather than my life almost exclusively focussing on work for a few years.
Thanks in advance,
JB
