I recently started at a position, two months ago, where I am needed to perform a set of tasks that I am the only one qualified or skilled enough to perform. I very much enjoy my current position, but my work is specialized and leaving currently or even within the next few months would be a great inconvenience to them.
However I just received an offer to work for a company that I have have been trying to get a job at for over five years. It is my dream job and will catapult my career prospects, as they are the top company in my field. There is no way I can turn down the new job offer.
I'll be able to give three months notice, which may seem like quite a bit of time, but within my field projects take 2 to 4 years to complete, and I would be basically abandoning several since a replacement for me would be very difficult to find.
My question is basically, how do I leave my job on good terms when I know fully well that my absence will cause a good amount of chaos and stress to those I work with?
I am also currently on very good terms with my new boss and would hate to sour our relationship as he was hoping to mentor me into a similar position as his.
Any advice on quiting a job you like, for a job you'll love, would be appreciated.
